The Artists and Writers in Antarctica Programme is a joint partnership between Arts Council England and the British Antarctic Survey. Two places are available each year for artists from across the artforms to spend three months during the Antarctic summer. The programme is based on open competition and peer review for selection.

Selected artists have a unique experience of the Antarctic in order to develop their work and inform a better understanding of its stunning features and environmental and social systems. Of considerable importance is the way in which these artistic studies illuminate and complement scientific research and allow the public to experience a different insight into Antarctica.
